The DARPA Robotics Challenge is a prize competition funded by the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. Held from 2012 to 2014, it aims to develop semi-autonomous ground robots that can do “complex tasks in dangerous, degraded, human-engineered environments.”

The DRC Trials occurred on December 20 and 21, 2013 in Florida. During the trials the robots were still teleoperated for the vast majority of tasks. The 8 teams to win funding to compete in the Finals were the following teams in order of points; SCHAFT 27, IHMC Robotics 20, Tartan Rescue 18, MIT 16, RoboSimian 14, Team TRACLabs 11, WRECS 11 and TROOPER 9.
