Click to enlarge video or view it below.

The scientist Selmer Bringsjord have performed an experiment that in a way indicates robots to be self aware.

Selmer have programmed three robots with information that the two of them have got a pill called “dumbing pill”. The robots are told that this pill will prevent them to speak. He then asks the robots what sort of pill they have received.

One of the robots stands up and says that he do not know. But it then it recognice his voice and notes that he has not received the pill because he can speak and pill would have prevented him from doing so if he had received it.

In this paper (to be presented at RO-MAN 2015), we show that a test of self-consciousness can be passed by NAO Bots reasoning over representations in the Deontic Cognitive Event Calculus (DCEC*).
